Authorities have identified the man found dead inside a truck following a three-car crash on Highway 24 earlier this week.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO), 29-year-old Noel Gutierrez-Cano died from at least one gunshot wound after the crash, which occurred Tuesday morning, Aug. 26, near the intersection of Highway 24 and Blue Gill Drive, just south of Judge Orr Road. Life-saving measures were attempted, but Gutierrez-Cano was pronounced dead at the scene. His death is being investigated as a homicide.
Deputies and Colorado State Patrol troopers initially responded to the crash just after 8:15 a.m. Witnesses reported seeing the driver of the truck—a white 2013 GMC Sierra Denali towing a black trailer—flee the scene on foot.
Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. to check dashcams or security cameras for suspicious activity. Tips can be reported to the EPSO Tip Line at (719) 520-7777.
