Assistant Chief Bashir delivered a media briefing after a deadly shooting in the 15200 block of Vandalia Way, where six people were shot early Sunday morning.
According to police, the incident occurred shortly after 1:45 a.m., when Southwest Patrol officers responded to reports of gunfire at what investigators describe as a large gathering or party. When officers arrived, they found six gunshot victims.
Five victims were transported to nearby hospitals—some by ambulance and others through self-transport. One woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an argument that escalated into an exchange of gunfire involving two or more individuals. Police confirmed one person has been detained and may be a person of interest, though detectives are still interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence to confirm their involvement.
Authorities have not yet released the ages or genders of the surviving victims. The investigation remains active.
