The Parma Heights community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 15-year-old Aniaz Paradiso, a junior at Valley Forge High School, who was tragically killed in a shooting in Cleveland early Sunday morning.
Principal Janine Andrzejewski shared the devastating news in a message to families, describing the loss as “profoundly saddening.” She remembered Aniaz as adventurous, full of energy, and someone who “left a mark everywhere he went.” Above all, she noted, his most memorable trait was his “warm, infectious smile—a smile that lit up any room.”
Aniaz had been part of the Valley Forge student body since ninth grade and previously attended Shiloh Middle School and Parma High School. Teachers, classmates, and administrators recalled his magnetic presence, his ability to connect with others, and the positivity he spread throughout the community.
According to Cleveland police, the shooting happened shortly after midnight near West 130th Street and Lorain Avenue, where a group of young people had gathered at an Airbnb for a party. An altercation broke out, leading to gunfire that claimed Aniaz’s life. Responding officers deployed a helicopter and K-9 units to search for suspects. Authorities later arrested an 18-year-old man on obstruction charges, though the investigation remains ongoing.
Principal Andrzejewski said the district is mobilizing crisis counselors, licensed therapists, and school psychologists to support grieving students and staff. “Our hearts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” she wrote, noting that Aniaz’s younger sisters—students at Thoreau Park and Shiloh Middle School—are also receiving additional care and support.
Families have been provided grief resources, including guidance on how to talk to children about loss, as well as referrals to community partners such as OhioGuidestone and Cornerstone of Hope, which specialize in grief counseling.
Friends and classmates have taken to social media to share memories of Aniaz, remembering his kindness, spirit, and ability to bring joy wherever he went.
As Valley Forge High School enters a difficult week, the focus remains on healing, supporting one another, and honoring the memory of a young life taken too soon. Vigils and memorials are expected in the coming days as family, friends, and the community gather to celebrate the life of Aniaz Paradiso.
