UNION, New Jersey (WABC) — A pedestrian was fatally struck on Route 495 in New Jersey early Wednesday morning, causing a traffic backup at the Lincoln Tunnel.
It happened on the westbound side at Kennedy Boulevard in Union City.
The traffic coming away from the Lincoln Tunnel could be seen getting diverted onto local streets.
Inbound to New York City, traffic was backed up all the way on Route 3 by the Meadowlands due to rubbernecking.
Delays were further exacerbated due to the closure of the express bus lane, mixing buses in with the rest of traffic.
Commuters are urged to take the George Washington Bridge instead.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
