A serious collision between a semi-truck and a horse-drawn buggy left one man fighting for his life and a horse dead Wednesday afternoon in Stark County, authorities confirmed.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on U.S. Route 62 in Sugar Creek Township. Investigators said both the semi-truck and the horse-drawn buggy were traveling westbound when the truck struck the buggy from behind.
The driver of the horse-drawn buggy suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. The condition of the semi-truck driver has not been released, and no additional injuries were reported.
Tragically, the horse pulling the buggy was pronounced dead at the scene. The roadway was partially impacted as emergency crews responded, secured the area, and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
