Authorities confirmed that a 69-year-old woman was killed Monday evening after her vehicle struck two state troopers conducting a traffic stop in Cairo.
The crash occurred on State Route 23 at approximately 5:23 p.m. on November 17, 2025. According to the New York State Police, the troopers from the Catskill barracks had pulled over a vehicle and were standing outside their patrol car when another vehicle, driven by Sharon Torres of Cairo, collided with their vehicle from behind.
Torres was pronounced deceased at the scene. Both troopers sustained injuries but are expected to survive. Emergency responders quickly arrived to provide care and secure the scene.
The State Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether speed, road conditions, or other factors contributed. Traffic on State Route 23 was temporarily affected while responders worked at the scene.
