SOUTH LOS ANGELES. A large police presence descended on Los Angeles Academy Middle School and STEAM Magnet Thursday afternoon after reports of a possible gun on campus led to a precautionary lockdown.
The incident was reported shortly after noon near the intersection of Slauson Avenue and Avalon Boulevard, prompting an immediate response from LAPD officers and Los Angeles School Police. According to authorities, one student was detained after another student accused them of possibly having a firearm.
Investigators confirmed that no gun was found, no shots were fired, and no injuries were reported. However, police and school officials conducted a room-to-room search to ensure the safety of all students and staff before lifting the lockdown.
In a statement, a Los Angeles Unified School District spokesperson emphasized that safety remains their highest priority:
“We have no reported injuries and no evidence of a shooting. Students and staff remain safe while law enforcement continues to respond.”
Helicopter footage from AIR7 showed several patrol cars surrounding the campus as law enforcement carefully swept the area. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are expected to release more details as they become available.
