Springfield authorities have released new details in a devastating tragedy that left three people dead inside a home on State Street late last month. Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni confirmed the identities of the victims on Monday, offering clarity into a case that has left families heartbroken and the community stunned. The shocking discovery was made on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, after police responded to the residence for a reported stabbing.
Around 9:50 a.m. that morning, Springfield Police officers arrived at a home in the 1400 block of State Street following a call about a possible stabbing. When officers entered the residence, they were confronted with a grim and deeply troubling scene. Three adults—two men and one woman—were found dead inside. The nature of their injuries immediately prompted a major investigation and drew the attention of homicide detectives and prosecutors.
Officials identified the two victims as 67-year-old Khamkieo Chingvacha of Springfield and 47-year-old Sachivanh Phomphanh of West Hartford, Connecticut. Both were believed to have been fatally stabbed during the incident. The third individual, 43-year-old Kung Kedjumnong, also of West Hartford, has been identified as the person responsible for the killings before taking his own life. Authorities say that evidence from the scene strongly supports this conclusion, though a full investigative review is still underway.
Detectives with the Springfield Police Department’s Homicide Unit, led by Captain Trent Duda, are working in collaboration with the Hampden District Attorney’s Murder Unit to fully understand what led to the violent encounter. Investigators have not disclosed potential motives or the nature of the relationship between the three individuals, noting that a careful and thorough examination of the evidence is still ongoing. However, officials stressed that there is no active threat to the public, offering reassurance to residents shaken by the news.
Incidents involving multiple fatalities, especially those occurring inside private homes, often leave communities grappling with confusion and sorrow. Neighbors in the area expressed shock as police remained on scene for hours collecting evidence and documenting the circumstances. Many described the event as both frightening and heartbreaking, unable to imagine what unfolded behind closed doors that morning.
