
A tragic house fire Friday morning claimed the lives of three residents, leaving the East St. Louis community in shock and mourning.
Fire crews responded to the blaze in the 3300 block of Bond Avenue, where firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the flames. As of 9:45 a.m., crews remained on scene addressing hot spots and securing the area.
According to the St. Clair County Coroner’s Office, the victims have been identified as 92-year-old Sylvester Reeves, 55-year-old Pierre Maley, and 60-year-old Cheryl Johnson, a longtime resident remembered fondly by neighbors and friends.
Each life lost represents an irreplaceable absence for their loved ones and the wider community. Friends and neighbors are now gathering to grieve and honor the memory of Mr. Reeves, Mr. Maley, and Ms. Johnson, whose presence touched many lives.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
