One girl didn’t make it out alive—another clung to life just long enough for doctors to fight for her, but the injuries she suffered were far beyond what any medical team could repair. The crash that claimed them happened at approximately 11:38 p.m.on Interstate 95 near Exit 21 in West Warwick, a stretch of highway that witnesses say suddenly erupted with the sound of metal
tearing and tires skidding. A single silver Toyota, carrying six teenagers, lost control and veered off the roadway. Within seconds, it slammed into a large tree with such violent force that the vehicle’s frame split open, sections of metal curling around the trunk.
Eyewitnesses who pulled over described hearing a long, desperate screech, followed by an impact so loud it echoed off the nearby overpass. First responders arrived to a scene of devastation: doors torn apart, airbags deployed, and portions of the car crushed into angles impossible to recognize. Inside the mangled wreckage, 17-year-old Ayanna Voyak showed no signs of life.
Her position in the vehicle and the severity of the impact left rescuers with immediate certainty that nothing could be done.Their attention turned to the surviving teens, including 16-year-old Aisha Jules, who was still breathing but in grave condition. She was pinned beneath crumpled metal, gasping, bleeding heavily, and slipping in and out of consciousness.
Firefighters worked with hydraulic tools to cut through the shattered frame, freeing her after several agonizing minutes. Medics rushed her to the hospital, fighting to stabilize her brittle pulse.Despite emergency surgery and the tireless efforts of trauma teams, Aisha never regained full awareness. Her injuries—blunt-force trauma, internal bleeding, and critical head wounds—were too extensive.
She passed away shortly after arrival. The other teens remain hospitalized with varying injuries, while investigators are piecing together what caused the car to lose control—speed, distraction, or a mechanical failure. Families now face an unimaginable grief, mourning two young lives cut short on a highway that was supposed to carry them safely home.
