Heavy police presence surrounded Upper Darby High School Friday afternoon after an anonymous threat prompted officials to evacuate the building, according to district and police statements.
The Upper Darby Police Department confirmed the ongoing activity, urging the public to stay clear of the area:
“Police activity at the Upper Darby High School. Please stay clear of the area. Updates will be made when they are available. As always, thank you for your continued support.”
In an email to families, the Upper Darby School District explained that administrators received an anonymous tip regarding a threat. Out of “an abundance of caution,” staff and students were evacuated to safe locations outside the school while law enforcement secured the building.
“Please DO NOT attempt to call the school or come to the school so that the emergency responders and the Upper Darby School District Team can secure the location and manage the incident,” the message read.
As a result of the evacuation, the Springfield School District announced that Friday night’s scheduled football game against Upper Darby High School has been postponed.
There have been no confirmed injuries, and officials have not released details about the nature of the threat. The situation remains under investigation, and updates are expected as police and school officials continue to assess the scene.
