A teenager has been injured following a stabbing incident at the Watergardens Shopping Centre in Melbourne’s northwest.
Police said they were called to the shopping centre just after 6:00 p.m. following reports of a fight near the entrance to Kmart.
According to investigators, a group of teenagers were involved in an altercation during which one person was injured in what has been described as a machete slash. The victim, a teenage male, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
A Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed that no arrests had been made immediately after the incident. Officers have since spoken to witnesses and are reviewing CCTV footage from the shopping centre to identify those involved.
Shoppers reported scenes of panic as people moved away from the entrance during the disturbance. The area was cordoned off by police for several hours before normal operations resumed.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and have appealed for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
