A 17-year-old male from Syosset has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old boy at a house party in West Babylon earlier this month, Suffolk County police announced Monday.
The teen suspect, whose name has not been released because of his age, is being charged as an adult with second-degree murder. He is accused of killing Liam Delemo, 15, during a large party on Carlton Road on the night of Nov. 3.
Police said nearly 100 teens had gathered at the home when a fight broke out around 10:30 p.m. During the altercation, Delemo was stabbed. His parents rushed to the scene and found their son gravely injured.
According to Delemo’s mother, Hope, her son was still conscious when they reached him. She said his final words to his parents were, “I love you. I’m sorry.” Delemo was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities did not disclose what led investigators to the 17-year-old suspect. Last week, Delemo’s father, Michael, publicly urged witnesses to come forward, emphasizing that loyalty among peers should not stand in the way of justice.
“This whole, ‘If I tell on somebody I’m a rat,’ that goes out the window, My son’s dead.”
In addition to the murder charge, the homeowner, Bonnie Miranda, 70, was arrested for allegedly allowing the underage party to take place. She was charged under Suffolk County’s social host law, which holds adults accountable for permitting underage drinking events in their homes, as well as with child endangerment. Police said her grandson threw the party.
However, Delemo’s parents have emphasized that they do not blame Miranda for their son’s death. GoFundMe
“It’s not the parents’ fault of the people that had the party or the grandmother, Nothing can take back the fact that my son is dead.”
The investigation remains ongoing. Police have not provided additional details about the motive or events leading up to the stabbing. 4
